Turn 1: Turn 1 (Big Red) A blind left-hand hairpin at the circuit's highest point, climbing over an 11 percent gradient from the start line and named Big Red for early investor Red McCombs. Lewis Hamilton passed Max Verstappen into it at the start of the 2021 race, and it triggered a lap-1 pile-up in the wet 2015 race.
Turn 2: Turn 2 A downhill right-hander inspired by the Senna S of Interlagos, linking Big Red down into the esses.
Turn 3: Turn 3 The first of the fast esses modelled on Silverstone's Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel complex.
Turn 4: Turn 4 Part of the Silverstone-inspired esses; Carlos Sainz crashed here in 2015 qualifying, bringing out red flags.
Turn 5: Turn 5 Part of the flowing esses; Alonso and Stroll collided in this section on lap 1 of the 2018 race.
Turn 6: Turn 6 The corner completing the esses, where the sequence begins to tighten.
Turn 7: Turn 7 Part of the tightening esses that slow the cars through Turns 7 to 9.
Turn 8: Turn 8 A continuation of the tightening esses.
Turn 9: Turn 9 The closing part of the tightening esses; a bumpy exit kerb here broke Sebastian Vettel's suspension in the 2019 race.
Turn 10: Turn 10 A blind corner where drivers downshift before the back-straight hairpin.
Turn 11: Turn 11 (Bobby Pin) The tight hairpin at the far end of the lap, named for COTA chairman Bobby Epstein, feeding the long back straight; Hamilton passed Mark Webber in the DRS zone off it in 2012.
Turn 12: Turn 12 The heavy braking zone at the end of the back straight, opening the Hockenheim-stadium-inspired sequence; Hamilton passed Vettel here for the lead in 2012.
Turn 13: Turn 13 Part of the Hockenheim-inspired stadium sequence.
Turn 14: Turn 14 Part of the stadium sequence, on the stretch drivers reach at up to around 214 mph off the back straight.
Turn 15: Turn 15 The tightest corner of the stadium sequence, tightening in its second part so drivers brake and turn at once; Michael Schumacher was penalised for blocking Alonso here in 2012 qualifying.
Turn 16: Turn 16 The first apex of a downhill, multi-apex right-hander modelled on Istanbul Park's Turn 8.
Turn 17: Turn 17 The middle of the Istanbul-inspired multi-apex right-hander.
Turn 18: Turn 18 The exit of the Istanbul-inspired sequence; Hamilton ran wide here battling Verstappen late in the 2018 race.
Turn 19: Turn 19 The first of the two final left-hand bends back to the main straight; Hamilton spun off here in the 2024 race, bringing out a safety car.
Turn 20: Turn 20 (The Andretti) The final left-hander onto the main straight, named in 2022 for Mario Andretti, who drove COTA's ceremonial first lap in 2012.
