AVUS was a high-speed circuit in southwestern Berlin, Germany, linking the districts of Charlottenburg and Nikolassee along largely straight roads. It hosted the German Grand Prix as a World Championship round on a single occasion, in 1959. Its most distinctive feature was a steeply banked, unguarded brick curve at the northern end, and the race weekend was overshadowed by the fatal accident of driver Jean Behra.
