Autodromo Nazionale di Monza

Italy · 76 grands prix

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza, in a royal park near Milan, Italy, has hosted the Italian Grand Prix in all but one World Championship season. A high-speed 'temple of speed' of long straights and heavy braking into chicanes, it is the spiritual home of Ferrari's tifosi.

The first chicane at the end of the pit straight, braking from around 350 km/h, a top overtaking spot and first-lap flashpoint. Ayrton Senna was eliminated here by backmarker Jean-Louis Schlesser in 1988, and Verstappen and Hamilton collided here in 2021.
The left-hander completing the first chicane, the Rettifilo.
A long, flat-out right-hand sweep taken at around 330 km/h in eighth gear.
A fast right-left chicane named for a local irrigation channel, with brutal kerbs. On lap 1 of the 2000 race a crash here threw a wheel that killed fire marshal Paolo Gislimberti.
The second part of the della Roggia chicane.
A blind, slightly banked medium-speed right named for the nearby town of Lesmo, apexed at around 217 km/h.
The second Lesmo, a right-hander taken in fifth gear where using all the kerb is vital.
The entry to a demanding left-right-left chicane named for double champion Alberto Ascari, who was killed at its predecessor, the Curva del Vialone, while testing in 1955.
The middle of the Variante Ascari chicane.
The exit of the Variante Ascari onto the back straight.
The long, variable-radius final right-hander, historically the Parabolica, renamed Curva Alboreto in 2021 for Michele Alboreto. Jochen Rindt in 1970 and Wolfgang von Trips in 1961 both crashed fatally on its approach.
