The Nürburgring, in the Eifel mountains of Germany, is one of motorsport's most storied venues. Formula 1 now uses the modern GP-Strecke rather than the fearsome old Nordschleife, which it abandoned after 1976.

A sharp right-hander off the start-finish straight, built in the 2002 rebuild as an overtaking spot and nicknamed the Haug-Hook after Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug. Heavy rain turned it into the Turn 1 river at the 2007 European Grand Prix, where Button, Hamilton and others crashed.
