Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

Canada · 45 grands prix

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, on the Île Notre-Dame in Montreal, Canada, has hosted the Canadian Grand Prix since 1978. A low-grip, stop-start circuit hemmed by walls, it is famous for the 'Wall of Champions' at the final chicane.

The first half of the fast right-left complex that opens the lap, known together with Turn 2 as the Senna S, named for Ayrton Senna.
The second half of the Senna S, reversing direction out of Turn 1.
An unnamed corner in the sequence between the Senna S and the Pont de la Concorde kink.
An unnamed corner on the run between the Senna S and the Concorde bridge.
An unnamed corner in the same early-lap sequence toward the bridge.
An unnamed corner in the section leading toward the Pont de la Concorde; the historic Casino corner in this area was removed in 1996.
An unnamed corner completing the run to the Concorde bridge underpass.
A very fast kink just after the Concorde bridge underpass, a lead-in to the rush toward the hairpin.
The heavy-braking approach to the hairpin; Robert Kubica's car was launched into the wall just before the hairpin here in his violent 2007 crash, from which he escaped with a sprained ankle and concussion.
The 180-degree island hairpin, cited as one of F1's best examples of a full-lock hairpin and a premier overtaking point ringed by grandstands.
An unnamed corner between the hairpin and the Turns 12 to 13 passing zone.
The entry to one of the circuit's best passing zones at the end of the long straight after the hairpin, where many duels are decided.
The apex where cars run wide under pressure exiting the passing zone; the 1999 Wall of Champions strikes by Hill, Schumacher and Villeneuve are placed here by the race report.
The final chicane before the pit straight, its unforgiving exit wall dubbed the Wall of Champions after Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve all struck it in the 1999 race; some accounts number the wall Turn 13.
