Turn 1: Turn 1 The heavy braking zone off the front straight and a recurring first-lap flashpoint: Leclerc challenged Verstappen into here for the lead in 2023, and in 2024 Verstappen tagged Piastri into a spin at Turn 1, drawing a penalty.
Turn 2: Turn 2 Part of the fast Turn 2 to 4 infield complex that was left unchanged by the 2021 redesign, leading toward the DRS zone and the new hairpin.
Turn 3: Turn 3 A corner in the infield complex where Carlos Sainz lost control and crashed heavily in second practice for the 2023 race.
Turn 4: Turn 4 The last corner of the infield complex before the braking zone into the hairpin; in first practice on the reprofiled track in 2021 Sebastian Vettel inadvertently pushed Sainz off here, seemingly unaware the Ferrari was alongside.
Turn 5: The Hairpin (Turn 5) The wide, late-apex hairpin built in the 2021 redesign to replace the old chicane-and-hairpin combination, and the site of the sport's most famous overtake: on the last lap of the 2021 finale Max Verstappen passed Lewis Hamilton into Turn 5 to win the race and the title. Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi collided here in 2022, and Lando Norris passed two cars in one move here in 2025.
Turn 6: Turn 6 The first part of the slow Turn 6 to 7 chicane after the hairpin; Verstappen forced Hamilton wide here on lap 1 of the 2021 finale without penalty, and in 2025 Yuki Tsunoda was penalised for repeatedly weaving to defend against Norris through Turns 5 and 6.
Turn 7: Turn 7 The second part of the chicane, described by the track's designer as a crest that drivers still wish were re-cambered, with a DRS detection point at its exit.
Turn 8: Turn 8 A connecting corner between the Turn 6 to 7 chicane and the banked Marsa Corner on the run toward the marina section of the lap.
Turn 9: Marsa Corner (Turn 9) A long banked left-hander named Marsa Corner, built in the 2021 redesign to replace four old sharp corners with a single sweeping curve; Hamilton passed Russell around the outside here in his final Mercedes race in 2024, and Hamilton crashed here in 2025.
Turn 10: Turn 10 A connecting corner on the run out of Marsa Corner toward the reprofiled hotel section.
Turn 11: Turn 11 A connecting corner leading into the reprofiled hotel section beneath the Yas Hotel.
Turn 12: Turn 12 The first of the hotel-section corners that were widened in the 2021 redesign to turn a stop-start sequence into a faster, more flowing run.
Turn 13: Turn 13 A hotel-section corner whose negative camber was left unchanged in the redesign because full reconstruction was impractical, and which drivers still single out as hard to follow through.
Turn 14: Turn 14 The defining corner of the 2021 finale: six laps from the end Nicholas Latifi crashed here, triggering the late safety car that reshaped the title fight; it shares the retained off-camber geometry of Turn 13.
Turn 15: Turn 15 The penultimate corner, reprofiled in 2021 to be taken at near-full throttle so cars can follow more closely into the final corner.
Turn 16: Turn 16 The final corner onto the pit straight, now approached at higher speed because of the reprofiled penultimate corner; several drivers lost lap times to track limits at its exit in first practice on the new layout in 2021.
